If you’re considering an epic outdoor wedding in a Colorado state park but aren’t sure where to look, I highly recommend a Cheyenne Mountain State Park wedding. A perfect blend of mountain and prairie. With an outdoor amphitheater overlooking Colorado Springs below and a beautiful pavilion perfect for a covered reception without sacrificing any of the breathtaking views, it’s the perfect place for someone looking for an affordable venue that will still leave you and your guests speechless. I’ve collected some information about what makes it such a sweet spot for a wedding!
Whether you’re looking for a beautiful spot to get married or just spend a day outdoors, Cheyenne Mountain State Park is an incredible place to visit. The park itself is open year-round, perfect for connecting with nature and enjoying sunny days without the warm temperatures. Take advantage of the 28 miles of trails that are perfect for hiking, biking, horseback riding, and viewing wildlife. Plus, it’s a dog-friendly park with four different trails open for walking your furry bestie.
The Limekiln Trailhead has plenty of parking, restroom facilities, picnic tables, and a playground. Additionally, they have over 40 handicap-accessible picnic areas throughout the park. Each with its own table and grill for a picnic surrounded by some of the most incredible scenery.
If you want to make a weekend out of your visit, there is also a campground at Cheyenne Mountain State Park with 51 full-service campsites and ten walk-in tent sites. From early March through late October, the Camper Services building has coin-operated showers, laundry, a playground, and an activity room. How cool would a weekend camping wedding be?!
The park also offers educational programming all year long, including guided wildflower walks, family mystery hikes, animal education, full moon hikes, and campfire talks. There’s also a 9-hole disc golf course and a go-at-your-own-pace trail challenge for those looking for a good workout and a little friendly competition!
The park itself is a fantastic place to explore the great outdoors, take in the incredible sights of Cheyenne Mountain, and even host an unforgettable wedding with exceptional beauty and endless romance.
There are plenty of ways to use Cheyenne Mountain State Park for your wedding. Though there are two designated spaces to make your day spectacular and as easy as possible.
The Prairie Falcon amphitheater is the perfect place for an outdoor ceremony. Perched upon the mountainside and overlooking the valley of Colorado Springs. You won’t need much (if any) decor for your ceremony since the surrounding landscapes are truly gorgeous enough to set the tone for a secluded and romantic vow exchange. With Cheyenne Mountain as its backdrop, you and your partner will say “I do,” feeling like you’re on top of the world, surrounded by the people you love most. There is seating for up to 160 guests with rock step amphitheater-style seating, in addition to electricity and a fire ring on the paved patio area.
For your reception, the Prairie Skipper outdoor picnic pavilion accommodates up to 200 people. With stunning views of the city and park features below, the covered event facility is well-built and elegant with a rustic picnic aesthetic. It’s perfect for an upscale picnic or barbecue for your guests. You can absolutely elevate the look of it, however, with simple additions like twinkle lights or bistro lights, elegant table linens, and dramatic greenery and florals. There are restrooms nearby, as well as horseshoe pits, picnic tables, three large grills, and electricity located along its stainless steel countertop.
The amphitheater has limited parking, though the pavilion has ample parking for up to 90 vehicles. You may want to keep this in mind if you are planning to have your ceremony at Cheyenne Mountain State Park but hold your reception elsewhere.
Cheyenne Mountain State Park’s natural beauty isn’t only ideal for a spectacular wedding backdrop. The stunning vistas surrounding Cheyenne Mountain are also perfect for breathtaking photos. You and your partner will look like the only two people in the world. The overlooks of Colorado Springs nestled into the valleys below can also be used as for beautiful couple portraits. Nearby trees and meadows make alluring pictures, and the rolling hills covered in pine trees are ideal for anyone looking for woodland vibes in their pictures.
There are definitely pros and cons of getting married at a venue space that is pretty bare-bones. The pros are that you get to transform it into whatever you want decor-wise. Additionally, the surrounding views are going to really be the best and most beautiful part of the event. Plus, it comes with a much lower site rental fee than you may find in a typical wedding venue. It also means that you are free to work with whichever vendors you choose for catering, florals, entertainment, and more!
However, it also means you are pretty much working from scratch. Their events team will help you with scheduling. But there isn’t an event planner on-site to help you make sure you’re accounting for every detail. You’ll definitely want to consider hiring a day-of-coordinator to make sure everything is set up for you on-site. So you can focus on just enjoying your day. Rather than being the one to check things off of a list. It also means that you’ll have to bring everything up the mountain with you. Since the only things provided are the grills, electricity, and picnic tables.
You can book the Cheyenne Mountain State Park event spaces nine months in advance. So if you’re a far-in-advance planner, you’ll have to wait until a little later to secure the venue. Plus, while the park stays open year-round, they only allow weddings from May through October. So keep that in mind when you call to schedule your wedding date!
